I-ast Night’s Forecast General situation; A weak anticyclone now covers the Dominion, but pressure is commencing to fall in the far south with the slow approach of a depression across the South Tasman. Forecast: Winds, soutll- westerly at first in the Auckland province, otherwise north to north-west prevailing; moderate mainly, but freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas: In New Zealand waters, becoming rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman: Light, variable winds and slight seas ]in the northern portion; freshening | northerly winds and rising seas in the southern portion. Weather: For the I most part fair to fine, but unsettled i conditions developing later in West- | land and Southland; frosts probable I to-night in the South Island, but tem- ! peratures mild to-morrow. i To-day’s North Island Report The barometric pressure showed a marked rise over the northern part of the North Island during the" week-end and at Gisborne it was still rising this morning. The pressure was steady in the Wellington district. Gentle north-westerly breezes predominated and blue sky was reported at Tauranga, Opotiki, Gisborne and Napier, but conditions were cloudy to overcast at Auckland and Wellington. The temperature at 9 a.m. reached 63 degrees at Opotiki, and other readings were: Tauranga and Wellington, 59; Napier, 58; Auckland, 57, and Gisborne, 56. The state of the sea at most points along the east coast was smooth Midday Forecast !
