ROWING
POVERTY BAY CLUB “LEARN TO ROW” WEEK The “learn to row” week being organised by the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was fully discussed at a meeting of the committee of the club held during the week-end. Those present were Messrs. W. McLeod, chairman, G. Had wen, A. Gardner. F. Green, G. Ardern, M. Doyle, T. Stevens and R. Webb. It was agreed to open the campaign at 2 p.m. next Saturday and to continue it during the week at 5 o’clock each evening. The committee stressed the fact that no personal invitation was necessary for any young man desiring to take advantage of the opportunity to try his hand at the sport. There was definitely no charge for the instruction and no obligation to join the club. The learners were asked to bring a singlet and a pair of shorts and all who presented themselves at the shed were assured of a boat trip. As this was the first time that the opportunity to learn to row had been made available to the general public in Gisborne, tho committee expressed the hope that the offer would meet with a good response. The club captain reported that the overhaul of the plant was well on the way to completion, and before Saturday the boats would be ready for the water. The committee decided to make the club’s hall available for meetings and that communication on the matter could be made to the secretary or any member of the committee.
