ESCAPE OF BREMEN
DASH FOR ICELAND , MASTER’S PREPARATIONS SET VESSEL AFIRE (Reed. Oct. 13, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 12. The Amsterdam correspondent of the British United Press, in describing the escape of the German liner Bremen from New York to the Russian port of Murmansk, says that Edouard Poset, the only Dutch member of the crew, declared that the captain prepared to set the liner on fire to avoid its capture. Barrels of petrol were placed all over the ship as she steamed at top speed from New York to Iceland. -
