AUSTRALIAN DEFENCES
SMALL NAVAL VESSELS AIRCRAFT CONSTRUCTION (Reed. Oct. 14, 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. The Minister ot Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, announced that four small 700ton coastal patrol sloops of modern design will be built, in Australia for coastal patrol, mine-sweeping, and anti-submarine services. It is expected that the vessels will be completed within a year. The Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr. J. V. Fairbairn, said that next year Australia would have 500 training machines and would be producing them at the rate of 32 a month.
