TWO POLISH WARSHIPS ' HEAVY TOLL TAKEN EARLY DAYS OF WAR LONDON. Oct. 12. A story of how two Polish warships inflicted heavy losses on German warships and aircraft at the beginning ol the war is told by the Polish Ambassador in London. The battle was part of the operations in the efforl by the Germans to take the Hel Peninsula. On the first day the two Polish vessels —a destroyer and a mine-layer—-sank one German warship and put tc flight thp remaining four. On the second day eight German warships failed to avenge their defeat on the first day, and one was sunk. On „ the third day a squadron of German aeroplanes attempted to bomb the two Polish ships. The destroyer put up a ceaseless fire with one anti-aircraft battery and seven of the German machines were brought down The destroyer was eventually sunk and later incendiary bombs sank the mine-layer.
