SHELLING OF LAUNCH
MAN’S BODY MISSING SEARCH BY DIVER TOPS OF MASTS VISIBLE (T»«r Prnss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The military court which is making the formal inquiries concerning the fatal shelling of the fishing launch Dolphin by a coastal defence battery at Lyttelton on Thursday is private, but Lyttelton Harbour Board officials were present when the court opened yesterday. Mr. T. Martin, the Lyttelton agent for the New Zealand Seamen’s Federation, of which fishermen are now members, was also present and was permitted to question witnesses. Before concluding the court adjourned to the home of Mr. W. Willman, - the survivor of the tragedy and obtained his evidence. In the afternoon the Harbour Board's diver, Mr. J. Canning, went down and searched the Dolphin for the body of the owner of the launch, Mr. J. Brasscll. After a search lasting for about an hour, he reported that the body was not in the launch. Apparently it had been washed out of the engine room after the Dolphin sank. At low tide yesterday the tops of the Dolphin's masts were just visible, about 200 yards from the shore.
