SHEEP VALUES FIRM

MATAWHERd STOCK SALE STORES IN DEMAND Values for both store and fat sheep at to-day's Matawhero stock sale were firm, with an improving tendency in some instances in the store section. Beef Only a few fat cattle were yarded and the demand seemed quiet, but the entry was too small for any judgment to be passed. The individual pen prices were:— Cows. —One Jersey, medium finish, £4 9s; 2, Jersey, £4 17s. Vealers.—Two, good, Hereford cross, £2 6s; 1, good Hereford brindle, runner, £3. Heifers. —One, medium weight red, £4 14s; 1, ditto, Jersey, £4 16s. Fat Sheep Fat sheep values were maintained for a moderate sized entry. Woolly ewes ranged from lGs 9d to 21s lOd, with second grade at 15s. Shorn ewes broughf from 14s 7d to lGs, and one pen sold at 12s TOd. Good Southdown hoggets made 18s. Prices:—

Woolly Ewes. —Eight, 17s; 11, 17s lOd: 17, lGs 9d; 29, young, 21s lOd; 5,18 s Gd; 22, 18s; 11, 19s; 12, 17s sd. Wethers.—Ten, woolly, 22s Gd; G, ditto, 235.

Shorn Sheep.—Three wethers and 1 ewe, 14s 7d; 30, prime ewes, lGs; 29, ewes, 12s lOd.

Hoggeis.—Nine, good Southdowns, 18s. Second-grade Ewes. —Five, woolly, 15s. Store Sheep ( For a small yarding of store sheep there was an excellent sale, with values firm to improving. Wether hoggets made 21s 4d for extra good, 18s and 18s 3d for good, and 15s for average shorn, Ewe hoggets were in keen demand, good lines realising from 23s Gd to 24s 3d; store ewes, lGs 5d for extra good, otherwise to 10s lOd. Ewes with lambs made much higher prices, good pens reaching 23s 4d and 28s 7d. iGood Southdown lambs realised 15s lOd and 16s lOd. Prices: — Wether Hoggets.—Forty-one, well grown, full of condition, 18s; 52, extra good, with size, condition and skins, 24s 4d; 35, good frame and condition, 18s 3d; 5, good average, shorn, 15s. Store Ewes.—‘Forty-one, little teeth, average condition, 40s lOd; 20, in good order, 8s sd; 10, medium condition, 8s; 7, good, forward, 16s sd.

Ewe Hoggets.—-Ninety-two, wellgrown, full of condition, 24s 3d; 13, big and good, 23s lOd; 23, fairly good, in good order, 19s; 40, good average size, good condition, 23s Gd. Ewes and Lambs.—Seven good condition ewes, and-9 heavy lambs, 28s 7d: 5 medium conditioned shorn ewes, 5 average lambs, 15s 7d; 48 fairly good conditioned ewes, and 17 good 'Southdown lambs, 23s 4d.

Southdown fLambs.—‘Fifteen, big and good, 16s lOd; 14, ditto, 15s lOd.
