STATION FACILITIES CHANGES AT GISBORNE ENLARGING THE TERMINUS MUCH NEW EQUIPMENT Substantial changes are to be made at the Gisborne terminus of the East Coast Main Trunk railway, in anticipation of the institution of through working between Gisborne and Napier according to advice received by Mr. D. W. Coleman, MiP., from the Minister of Railways. 'ln a letter to Mr. Coleman, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan outlines the projected changes to bring the station facilities up to the required standard, as under: “‘With further /reference to the representations you made to me last year relative to the Gisborne railway station, I desire to inform you that finality has been reached in regard to the railway facilities which will be necessary at Gidborne when through working between Napier and Gisborne commences. “It is the intention to provide four additional loop sidings, a short siding for railcars and two short sidings for holding spare carriages and vans. To enable the yard accommodation to be increased it will be necessary for the station building'to be shifted back. “It is also the intention to enlarge the goods shed to double its present size and provide a new goods office. The locomotive depot will be enlarged and a railcar shed, engine turntable and essential plant will be provided.
“It is hoped that it will be possible to make a start on the rearrangement scheme at Gisborne during the present financial year.”
