CHOIRS COMBINE

SOCIAL EVENING PRESENTATION MADE Members of the Friendly Circle Choir entertained members of the Diggers’ Choir at a social evening held in the Orange Hall last night. A welcome to’the visitors was extended to the Diggers by Mr. J. B. Waugh, vice-president of the Friendly Circle Choir, who commented on the happy relations which existed between the two organisations, ana added That the Friendly Circle members looked forward to the gatherings which the two choirs held from time to time. Mr. W. R. Oxenham, president of the Diggers' Choir, replied saying that his members, too. enjoyed the functions, and thanked the Friendly Circle members for their hospitality. During the supper- interval, a presentation of an iced birthday cake and. crystal vase was made to Mrs. R. V. Lyndon, president of the Friendly Circle Choir, whose birthday fell yesterday. In making the presentation on behalf of the choir members, Mr. Waugh spoke of the great help the Friendly Circle members had had from Airs. Lyndon. Earlier in the evening, Mrs. Dunlop made a presentation of a beautiful bouquet to Mrs. Lyndon. During the function, both choirs rendered items, the Friendly Giro*. Choir under the baton of Mr. D. Waugh, and the Diggers' Choir conducted by Mr. I. Birchnall. Others contributing to the musical programme were:—Miss I. Peterson, Misses M. Thodey and C. Robinson, songs; the Misses Black, duet; Mr. T. Stein, cornet solo; Mr. 11. Stichbury, violin solo; Messrs. O. Pritchard and G. B. Carter, musical sketch. The accompanist was Mrs. M. Smith. t

Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr J A. Vagg at the piano and Mr. PntcTiard on the violin.
