FOOTBALL BRAWL

LEAGUE FIGHT SEQUEL TWO MEN FINED (P«»r Proas Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this clay. “Football is a decent, clean game and you should keep it that way,” said the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, today when as a sequel to a brawl at a League football match last month, one player and one spectator were ■charged with fighting. The defendants were Raymond Gatehouse, a footballer, and Allan Boniface, a spectator. Sub-Inspector Packer said there was trouble and Gatehouse was ordered off early in the second spell. Gatehouse took exception to a remark allegedly made by Boniface’s sister as he was leaving the field and Boniface took his sister’s part, but Miss Bates, who was with the Bonifaces, threw her arms round Boniface, in an effort to stop the fight and was knocked to the ground by a blow. The fight went on and before long a general brawl ensued, resulting in the game being called off. Each was fined 20s.
