NAZI PATROLS REPULSED IN WEST
FAILURE OF DRIVES FOR PRISONERS GERMAN AIRMEN INTERNED BY DANES "‘(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. October 10, 3.10 p.m.) PARIS, October 9. A war communique states that the activity of the G'erman patrols and raiders on the Western Front was intensified to-day in the hope of securing prisoners in order to identity the opposing French units, but machine-gun and rifle fire repulsed them all. German artillery bombarded the French forward areas. Rain is hampering operations. A further report from Paris states that a French patrolboat successfully attacked a German submarine. A Copenhagen report states that a German war plane crashed on Fano Island, which lies off the south-west coast of Jutland. The four occupants were interned. A second German plane crashed on a plantation on Fano Island and one of the crew of five was injured. It is stated that the crew set fire to the plane when they found they were in neutral territory.
