WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING IN MAKARAKA DISPLAY OF CRAFTS A pleasing display of flowers and arts and crafts was staged at a meeting the Makaraka-Matawhero Women’s Insli'ute. when members of the Ormond and Tamarau gardening circles were present. A welcome to the visitois was extended by the president, Mrs. E. Livingstone. The flowers on display were beautiful, and the arts and crafts section contained some clever and artistic work. Regret was expressed at the depar'ure of Mrs. •T. French, whose husband had been transferred to Rotorua, and members wished her every happiness in her new home. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the miners who lost their lives in the Huntly disaster and also with those of tire Misses D. and B. Lumley, prominent Auckland athietes, who were killed recently. A very interesting paper on gardening was read by Mrs. Perry, while Mrs. A. Langford gave a short talk on her trip to Europe. Members decided to prepare a hamper at the next meeting for the leper station and also to have a “bring and buy” afternoon in aid of the Red Cross funds.
