REMARKABLE ESCAPE

SYDNEY FOOTBALLER ACCIDENT BEFORE MATCH The Australian Rugby representative footballer, Cyril Towers, had a remarkable escape from injury when he was involved in a tram smash prior to the commencement of the Sydney Rugby Union’s grand final to toe played 'between Randwick and University recently. When the accident occurred Towers was flung forward violently and his head smashed through the glass of the next compartment. Although shaken Towers had no thought of withdrawing from the match and rushed to the ground in a taxi-cab. In the first half he was dazed by a heavy tackle and required medical attention, while in the second spell he retired to have his right ankle bandaged and returned limping to the field. University won the match, and with it the championship, by 25 points to 17.
