BOY’S INDECENT ACT
YOUNG GIRL ATTACKED SUPERVISION ORDERED A charge of indecently assaulting a six-year-old gill on September 4 was faced by a 14-year-old boy this morning when he appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Children's Court. The boy was placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years. Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson, prosecuting, said that the little girl was going to school with her small brother, aged eight, when the accused came along on a bicycle. I-Ie offered the girl a ride and, when she declined, picked her up and placed her on the bar of his machine. He took the girl down near a riverbank and' it was then that the offence was committed. “The boy’s conduit \Vas amazing for one of his age,” said DetectiveSergeant Waterson. The father of the boy said he had no idea that anything of the kind had been going on. The magistrate spoke at length to the boy and stressed the seriousness of the offence. In the past, he said, the lad would have been flogged or sent to a reformatory school. Mr. Luxford explained that the youth would have to realise his responsibilities.
