“GET IT OVER NOW”

ACCUSED MAN'S PLEA NEWCASTLE, Sept, 28. “Why not get it over now? I fear not death,” said Donald McKinnon, aged 43, seaman, when he appeared on remand, co a charge of murder, at the Newcastle Police Court to-day. McKinnon was charged with the murder of Leon Targowsti at Port Warata'h on September 7. When Mr. Scobie, S.M., told him that he would be taken before the District Coroner next Friday, McKinnon said: “It would be belter for me to be dead than for the thing to be going on as * long as it is.” Later ,he said: “This sort of thing is no good to me,” and at another stage, “I have been in that cell at Maitland, and that is enough to drive a fellow mad.”
