STOCK AGENTS
MARKETING MEASURE CONCERN EXPRESSED MANY ISSUES AT STAKE The' extent to which the activities of slock and station agency companies may be affected by the Marketing Amendment Bill is not yet fully known, states the Auckland Herald. However, while official comment is withheld in all quarters, the legislation is viewed with much concern by firms in the Auckland Province. "Until there is an opportunity of persuing the details of the legislation and also of gaining some idea of the Government’s intentions, we do not know where we are,” said the principal of one large agency firm. "There are many issues at stake, and the scheme needs to be examined on a national basis. Naturally, however, we feel concerned.” Speculation as to the use of the powers contained in the bill was rife at the Westfield stock market. The extent to which the legislation was purely a war measure was the subject of considerable discussion, but it was generally agreed that the actual effects could not. be determined until the nature of regulations brought down under the Act was known. The stock and station agents and the woolbrokers have a central organisation in Wellington, which, it was stated, is conducting negotiations with the Government. There was Do-minion-wide concern at the great powers taken by iTte Government in the bill, particularly as there had already been experience of the manner in which such authority was used.
