CAREER OF H. F. MCLEAN REPRESENTATIVE RECORD
The retirement of H. F. McLean, captain of the Auckland Rugby Union’s representative fifteen for the past three seasons, brings to a close a splendid football career. Over a period of approximately 10 years, McLean has played in 81 representative matches, having represented Wellington on 40 occasions, Auckland 32 and Taranaki nine. • Educated at the Nap ie r H i g h School, McLean first came into prominence when he was selected to represent Wellington in 1928. In the following season, when in Taranaki, he was selected for the North Island team. He was also a member of a New Zealand team which defeated 1 the Maoris at Wellington. McLean 1 secured H. F. McLean international honours in the. 1930 season when lie was chosen for the New Zealand side in the final two tests against the British team, and in the third test at Auckland scored two fine tries. Proba'biy his greatest success was experienced in the 1031? season when ’he scored 11 tries ijor the All Blacks during the tour of Australia. Two years later he was again selected for the All Blacks to tour Australia, and also toured Great Britain with the 1935 New Zealand team.
