RUMANIA CONFIDENT

ALARMS DISCOUNTED BESSARABIAN POSITION SOVIET DRIVE UNLIKELY (Reed/ Oct. 5, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 4. The Bucharest correspondent of The Times states that there are several indications that the Rumanian Government awaits the future almost confidently. Reports from Bessarabia discount many alarming rumours concerning the position there. Military circles are of the opinion* that Russia does not want to launch an offensive there at present. Rumania has issued a proclamation admitting that demobilisation is impossible, but a month’s leave will soon be available to those called up.
