In connection with the announcement that New Zealand had authorised the formation of a Maori battalion for home or overseas service, the fine record of this remarkable race in the last war is recalled in England. Mention is made firstly of Gallipoli, where many Maoris gained distinction and where they suffered many casualties because of their extreme daring, and secondly, in France, where the Maoris gave equally fine service.
