NAZI VIEW OF NEUTRALITY
POSSIBILITY OF RELEASE CAUTION IN LUXEMBURG ZONE GERMAN LINE COULD BE REDUCED RESTATEMENT OF ITALIAN POLICY (Elec, Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. October 6, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 5, A Brussels message quotes a report by the Belga News Agency in Berlin which states that under certain circumstances Germany would consider herself released from her neutrality pledge to Belgium. The report is causing serious concern in Brussels. A French official communique states: “There has beeii intermittent artillery activity on several parts of the front.” It is semi-officially stated in Paris that the French are in full possession of the B.ourg Forest, between the Moselle and the Saar. They thus are in a bettei* position to resist a possible German outflanking movement through Luxemburg. The Petit Parisien’s military expert points out that the violation of the neutrality of Luxemburg would shorten the German line in this sector to 30 kilometres, compared with the present 120 kilometres, but it would mean abandoning part of .the protection of the Siegfried Line. A Rome radio broadcast announced to-day that the Italian policy would be directed toward preventing the war from spreading- since, if it did, it would be disastrous for mankind. “Italy will take military action only if her interests are at stake,” stated the broadcast.
