BROKEN SIGNPOSTS
MOTORISTS COMPLAIN ACTION TO BE TAKEN The finding of eight broken signposts on the Coast highway and six on the Patutahi road was disclosed yesterday afternoon toy the patrol when reporting at the meeting of the Gisborne advisory committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland). One of the members, Mr. F. R. Bould, was authorised .to interviewdrovers to ascertain if it was due to damage by cattle and to ask the drovers, in future, to report such damage by animals, while in addition it was decided to advertise the fact that a reward of £2 was available to persons giving information that would load to the conviction of those responsible for the damage of the signs, other than that done by cattle. Mr. H. I-I. Dc Costa said that some of the damage could be done by cattle, but that other signs had been broken by vandals. Confirming the remarks of Mr/ De Costa, the patrol said that some of the broken signs were in such a position that they could not have been reached by passing stock. The chairman, Mr. N. H. Bull, suggested that the police should be notified as several of the signs bad been placed in position only recently at a substantial cost to the association. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. Bull, chairman, A. Baillie, E. R. Bould, E. W. Forrest, V. Butler, E. Swinnerton, C. J. Cox, De Costa, L. Miles, and the secretary, Mr. Geo. Crawshaw.
