CRAVEN PLATE RANDWICK CARNIVAL STOKES TO TRUENESS DAZZLING FINISH (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 5, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 4. Ladies’ day at the Australian Jockey Club's meeting at Randwick to-day was favoured with fine weather, although a shower of rain fell before the first race. The course was in splendid order and the racing was most interesting. The Gimcrack Stakes, for fillies, in which 22 started, provided a dazzling .finished between Trueness and Dark Elegance. The former triumphed' by half a head. New Zealand had no actual representative in the event. Olympus was withdrawn from the Suburban Handicap, which the condstenf Newcastle gelding Red Thespian won narrowly from Bramol. The Craven Plate was won brilanlly by High Caste, wno nad the eader, Beau Vite's measure at the ionic turn. The winner simply outclassed his rivals, although Beau Vite ran a game race. Gold Rod was a complete disappointment. Moorsotis again showed no dash and Inished sixth in the Members' Handicap. The withdrawal of Gold Salute took a lot of interest out of the Members' Handicap. The jockey E. Bartle completed the hat-trick, riding successively the winners of the Craven Plate, Gimcrack Stakes, and Suburban Handicap. The attendance to-day was 23,000, compared with 27,000 on the third day last year. Results: — Second Hurdle Race, of £300; 2 miles and 3 furlongs.—El Banado, 10.7 (Robinson), 1; First Son, 10.1 (Hood), 2; Exning, 9.4 (Ellis), 3. Six started. Cook), 1 Pannade, 7.6 (Hughes), 2; Dashin;. lavalier, 9.1 (Coutts), 3. Tnirteei started, including Moorsotis, who finished sixth. Pannade looked like he winner at the home turn, where. Catanga, coming from third, staged iis customary determined run and won well by three-quarters of length, with Dashing Cavalier length away, third. Lavengro was fourth.
