NEEDED FOR TRAINING LOCKHEEDS EXEMPT MODIFIED SERVICES (Pur Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. All aircraft owned by the Union Airways and Cook Strait Airways, with the exception of the Lockheed air-liners owned by the Union Airways, are to be taken over by the Government for the training of the Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel, according to an announcement made by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, last night. It is possible that some modified form of air service in the Dominion will be possible. The taking over of the machines will begin about October 15, and all machines will be acquired by approximately November 10.

By using the remaining Lockheeds some form of modified service may ; be possible, by agreement between the companies and the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, said Mr. Jones.
