THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: An intense anticyclone. with its centre near Hawke’s Bay, still covers the Dominion. Weak disturbances are located near Norfolk Island and in the south Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds, fresh easterlies over the Auckland Peninsula; elsewhere variable, but with moderate northerlies predominating, and freshening at times in the south. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough on the eastern side of the Auckland Peninsula and to the west of Foveaux Strait: otherwise slight. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate winds and moderate seas in the centra) portion, fresh northerly winds and rather rough sens in the northern and southern portions. Weather: Continuing fine and settled over most of the country; some light rain probable, however, in North Auckland, and conditions later becoming unsettled in the south-western Sounds area. Mild day but cool night temperatures, with frosts probable in both islands. To-Day’s North Island Report The. barometric pressure along the East Coast was falling, at 9 a.m,, but at that hour it was, still at a high level. The temperatures were: Wellington and Tauranga, 59 degrees; Auckland, 56; Gisborne, 49: and Napier, 48. A high wind of about 28 to 33 miles per hour from the northwest was blowing at Cape Maria Van I Diemen, but over the lower section of ! the island the winds were light and ■ variable. Overcast or cloudy conditions were reported along the East Coast, except for Tauranga and Wellington. The sea was rough at Tiritiri, but elsewhere smooth to moderate. | Midday Forecast General Situation: The intense anticyclone over the Dominion and the disturbance to the north are moving slowly eastward. Forecast: Light to moderate and variable winds, fair and mild with cool night temperatures. Seas: Slight to moderate.
