COASTAL TRADE The Pakura left Gisborne last night for Napier, and is to clear the Hawke’s Bay port to-day for Lyttelton and Wellington. The vessel loads at Lyttelton on Saturday and at Wellington on Monday for Napier, Waikokopu, Gisborne and the Coast, returning here about Thursday next. The Puriri jj due at Gisborne tonight from Westport with a cargo of coal. The ship completes discharge at Tokomaru Bay. The Kopara arrived at Gisborne this morning from Portland, Auckland and Tokomaru Bay. The ship sails to-night for Napier and then makes her way northwards to Coast bays. Portland and Auckland. The Margaret W. left Auckland at 4.20 p.m. yesterday for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne. The vessel arrives here to-morrow morning and - departs the same day for Auckland. Tiie Wainui, which loads at southern ports next week, calls at Dunedin on Monday, Oamaru and Timaru on Tuesday and Lyttelton on Wednesday, thence Wellington. Gisborne and Napier. The ship is due at Gisborne on October IC.

HOROUTA FROM BLUFF The 79-ton -auxiliary scow Horouta arrived at Gisborne last evening to refuel before resuming her voyage from Blufi to Auckland. The vessel recently completed 10 months' work in transferring a dismantled timber mill from Port Craig to the Bluff. The Horouta is in charge of Captain A. S. Miller, who is well known in shipping circles in Gisborne. Captain Miller reports that the scow made a fair passage from the Bluff and her cargo consists of rails, part of the railway line taken up at the southern mill. The craft loaded fuel and stores to-day and is expected to sail to-night for Auckland.

• FRENCH WARSHIPS ORDERED Orders have been placed by the French Minister of Marine with French shipyards for two 8000-ton cruisers and six 000-ton submarines. The two cruisers will be similar to the De Grasse, now under construction, and will be named Chateaurenault and Guichen; ;the former vessel will be built by the Forges ct Chantiers de la , Meditemmee, La Seyne, while the Forges et Chantiers de la Gironde, Bordeaux,. will build the Guichen. They will be capable of a speed of more than 32 knots.
