DAIRY PRODUCTION

SUBSTANTIAL RECOVERY GISBORNE DISTRICT RESULT OF GOOD RAIN As a result of the rain which fell last week, the biggest October dairy output for a number of years is expected from tiie Gisborne district this month.

Already the butterfat output toi the season to date is above that toi the corresponding period last year, and the September production in the district w'as the largest lor that month for three years.

September did not have the lull benefit of the good rain at the beginning of last week, and it is only now that the effect are beginning to become pronounced, but last month there was a fair flush of grass on most of the flat land as a result of earlier showers. This was sufficient to maintain production on a level with. September last year and towards the close to increase the output, while in the last few days the effects of the rain were becoming noticed.

The secretary of the Kia -Ora Co-operative Dairy-Company, Limited, Mr. J. 11. Sunderland, stated today that the output. last month provided a substantial increase over September last year, and the figure for ithe current month should bo equal to that of October two years ago, when the district passed through a normal spring.

"This is the first time for two years,” Mr. Sunderland added, ‘‘that wo have been able to report an increase on the corresponding month of the previous season."

Mr. 11. P. Hamilton, secretary of the Okitu Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, also reported a substantial incren.j£ last month on September last year, and added that the factory’s output for the first three months of the season up to the end of last month exceeded that of the corresponding period las year.
