| PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH | An increase of more than £2OOO in the missionary givings of the Presbyterian Church during the past finan- - | eial year was reported to the missions committee by the convener, the Rev. ;D. M. Cattanach. This result had 1 been attained, he said, in addition to large sums that had ben subscribed to the centenary thanksgiving fund, but nevertheless the church had not yet reached the standard of giving necessary to meet the expenditure on its mission activities. In view ,of war conditions and the necessity for economy, proposals were j considered for limiting the attendance | of members of the committee from a | distance during the war. Statistics from the Maori mission liclds showed that religious services are being conducted in 141 different preaching places. Slate Government’s decision to acquire an additional 50,000 tons. A purchase agreement with the British Government, by which Queensland will sell an additional 50,000 tons of this season’s sugar, was submitted by the Premier, Mr. Forgan v Smith, in detail to the Cabinet last week, and was approved by the Ministers.
