AIR RAID CASUALTIES
DUNEDIN PREPARES PLAN EMERGENCY BASIS The Oiago Hospital Board has formulated a scheme to be put in operation in the .event of an air raid. It is the intention of the board to centralise the hospital where it •s at present until such time (in the event of attack) as it is driven out. In the event of this taking place a hospital will be established on an emergency basis in the Technical School, which has in close proximity to it a number of buildings suitable to accommodate emergency cases. The Dunedin Hospital at present has accommodation for 325 beds, bitll under emergency conditions it is estimated that 8000 would be required. The board has selected several : buildings in the city which could be used in the case of emergency and the owners have been notified that their buildings may be required. I Sites for advanced dressing stations have been selected, and in the scheme casualties would be treated there before being sent to their homes or to hospital. These arrangements would hold good so long as the city did not suffer too great an attack. In the event of complete evacuation the patients would be sent to the hospitals in Central Otago.
