WAIROA MARRIAGES AFFECT OF CRISIS (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. As in other places in New Zealand, Die outbreak of the war has resulted in a big jump in the number of marriage licenses issued in Wairoa when compared with the average for this district.
Eight marriage licenses were issued by the registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Wairoa, Mr. H. G. Jamieson, during September and this is the second highest total on record in the district. It is significant that the record of 10 for one month was created in September of last year when it will be remembered the world was in the throes of a crisis.
Forty-eight marriage licenses have been issued by the registrar -so far this year - , compared with 43 for the same period last year. There were 15 births in Wairoa last month, 13 of which were European, which brings the.-total so far this year up to 168. In September, 1938, there were 16 births, 14 Europeans, and the total to the end. of September, 1938, was 130. Four deaths ■ were registered last month, making the total for the first nine months of the year 49, while in September, 1938, eight deaths were Registered and the total for the year up to the end of September was 93.
