POSTAL CHARGES
GENERAL INCREASE WAR REVENUE AIM MAIL AND TELEGRAMS SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED (Government Message) WELLINGTON, this day. Following upon the announcement of the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night of a decision to increase the letter postage as a means of raising additional revenue for war purposes, and Mr. Nash’s statement that there would be some adjustment of other rates, the Post-master-General, the Hon. F. Jones, to-day furnished particulars of the general increases that would apply from October 1.
Commenting generally on the increases, the Minister said that the public might not be aware that the postal, telegraph and telephone rates they enjoyed in New Zealand were, in many instances, the lowest in the world.
