On Special Duty
A group of seven Gisborne exservicemen, all veterans of the Great War, was dispatched from Gisborne this morning to take up special defence duties. It is doubtful whether any party of men have taken up national service with more enthusiasm than these men showed in accepting an opportunity, of serving their country in the present juncture —an opportunity which only a very small proportion of Great War veterans are offered. The men selected were all Gisborne residents, the party comprising Messrs. J. P. Gilhooley, E. G. Marshall, T. Mawe, C. West, £. M. Wallace, G. S. Symons and E. T. Cranney.
