RURAL HOUSING BILL
AMENDMENTS APPROVED ADVANCE LIMIT REMOVED (Pavlinmimtnry Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Rural Housing Bill was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday with some amendments proposed by the Minister of Housing, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, during the committee stage.
The Minister explained that he had endeavoured to meet several points raised by the Opposition speakers during the debate on the bill and the amendments would provide that no \dvance could be made without the consent of the State Advances Corporation. Another change was the striking out of the limit of £750 upon an advance for house construction, thus leaving the point to the discretion of the county council which borrowed the money and the State Advances Corporation which provided the funds.
The Hon. J. G. Cobbc (Nat., Manawatu) asked what would be the position of a farmer who dismissed an employee and wished him to vacate -i house.
Mr. Armstrong replied that the bouse was the farmer's property and was not subject to the Rent Restric'ions Act. Therefore there was no obligation to provide alternative accommodation.
Answering a question as to the posibon when any local authority declined to take advantage of the Act, the Minister stated that farmers in that locality could then approach the State Advances Corporation direct to obtain a loan for building.
