NEGLIGENCE CHARGE MOTOR-CYCLIST’S DEATH (Per Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. Arising out of a fatality on the Main Sou<h road, near Chertsey, On the night of July 29, Hector William John McLean, a taxi-owner, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with having negligently driven, a car so as to cause the death of William Thomas Kidson. The evidence showed that rain and sleet fell during the journey from Christchurch and, when pulling out to overtake a carl the taxi collided with the deceased's cycle. The driver of the third car said the cyclist dipped his lights when meeting him, witness hearing, the crash between one and a half to two chains away. The accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to '-'the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in the sum of £1(30.
