KEEN DEMAND

MATAWHERO STOCK SALE ALL SECTIONS ACTIVE There was much activity in all sections at the weekly Matawhero stock sale to-day and a keen demand, ruled throughout. Beef Only nine head of fat cattle were yarded, and the best price for cows was £f> 2s, while Jersey cows made to £5 10's, and Jersey heifers to £4. The market was brisk. The individual pen prices were:— |Cows. —One red polled, good, £4 14s; 2 P.A., average finish, £6 2s; 1, black, medium finish, £4 Is; 2, Jersey, £5 10s. Heifers.—One, good, small, Jersey, £4; 1, Jersey, vealer. good size and medium condition, £1 9s: 1, roan, 2-year steer ,0p), £4 10s. Fat Sheep There Was a very brisk sale for a small entry of fat sheep. Prime 2 and 4-tooth ewes made from 19s to 21s 3d, arid other ewes ranged from 15s 6d to 19s 7d. Southdown, hoggets brought 13s 2d. Mixed, first and second grade ewes reached l'ss, and second giade 13s 6d. Prices:— Ewes.— Twenty-two, 17s 4d; 21, 19s 2d; IS, 17s 2d; 12, 19s 7d; 6,15 s 6d; 8, Southdown, 15s 4d. hoggets. —Five, average, Southdown, 13s 2d; 13 do., 13s 2d; 3, prime, 2-tooth evyes and wethers, 19s; 3, prime, 4-tooth, 21s 3d.

Second grade ewes.—Eight, first and seconds, 15s; 9,13 s 6d. Store Sheep

A medium-sized yarding of store sheep Was offered, most being hoggets. A particularly . good sale resulted, hoggets advancing about Is 6d. Several pens of ewe hoggets ranged from 20s to 22s 10a. A number of pens of wether hoggets of good quality made from 16s to 18s, with medium sorts about 13s. Ewes with lambs also sold briskly, going to 22s Id, 18s Bcl and 18s, while a few store ewes made 11s 3d, which is above anything recorded lately. Prices: —

Ewe Hoggets.—Two hundred and seventy-nine, with size, condition and skins, 21s Gd; 51, on account of Mr. Gardner, Otoko, strong, well grown, good condition, good skins, and even, 22s lOd; 51, medium size, short wooi, store condition, 16s Gd; 10, fairly good size and condition, 18s sd; 89, good size, medium skins, store condition, 20s; 7, great, woolly, 22s 9d. Wether . Hoggets.—Sixty-six. on account of 'Mr. G. Swaibrick, big frame, good skins and condition, even size, 18s; 200, shorn as lam’bs, good frame and condition, 16s; 58, woolly, well grown, good- condition, 16s 7d; 74, some Southdowns, fair size and condition, 11s Id; 11, woolly, with size and great condition, 17s 7d; 25, fairly good size, medium condition, 12s 6d; 25 do., 12s lid. Store Ewes.—Thirteen, good store condition, 7s 3d; 9, good meaty condition, 7s 6d; 6, good, forward, 11s 3d.

Ewes and Lambs.—Eleven good conditioned ewes, and 12 good lambs, 18s 8d; 12 fairly good ewes and 12 lambs, 14s 8d; 6 good conditioned ewes, and 7 heavy Southdown lambs, 22s Id; 2 of each, all in good order, 18s.
