U-BOATS’ RETURN

SEVEN OF TWENTY-SEVEN HITLER VISITS DEPOT FURTHER BALTIC SINKING TRAWLER’S CREW TAKEN (Elec. To!. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 29. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 28. It is authoritatively stated in Paris that only seven German submarines out of 27 sent out to prey on merchantmen have returned to their bases.

It is reported from Wilhelmshaven that Herr Hitler has arrived to congratulate returning submarine crews.

'Moscow radio reports state that the freighter Poneer was attacked by a submarine, and was beached on the Estonian coast. Soviet warships rescued the crew.

A Stockholm message states that a German destroyer stopped the Swedish motor ship Kronprinessan. Margareat off Gothenburg and demanded the delivery of 11 members of the crew of the sunken trawler Caldew, which the Kronprinessan rescued in the North Sea on Tuesday.

The captain had no alternative but to hand the men over. The destroyer then turned round and disappeared.

The Admiralty states that the German destroyer which took off the Caldew’s crew acted within its rights under international law.
