LADIES ENTERTAINED

GISBORNE SAVAGE CLUB FINAL 1939 KORERO The close of the Gisborne Savage Club’s 1939 season of koreros was celebrated last evening in the City Hall with a programme of entertainment for the wives and friends of the Savages. As is usual, the ladies’ night was well patronised and the seating in the hall was fully taxed. The rangatira for the past year, Savage W. A. Bowie, was installed as chairman for the evening by the tribal, orator, Savage W. M. Jenkins.

During the evening a telegram from a past rangatira, Mr. H. F. Forster. Napier, wishing all an enjoyable evening, was read by the chairman.

Prior to a sketch depicting the parade of the- centennial queens, a topical “hit” was made by Savage Will B. Ivcany, who imitated a 8.8. C. announcer giving the news from Davenlry. Later lie announced that at a recent meeting of the Gisborne Centennial Council it bad been decided to continue with the queen carnival. He made an appeal to the audience to assist the efforts of the Gisborne Thirty-Thousand Club _ by giving their support to the functions next week.

At an interval in the programme a dainty supper was served. The artists were warmly applauded and encores were demanded of each item. The orchestra, conducted by the musical director, Savage Mainland L. Foster, contributed ‘‘Belle March, ’ “Carnivai Overture," "Diamond King March." "Moskowski’s Serenade," "Mayfair Cinderella,” and "Vision of Freedom.”

Oilier items were:—Songs, Savage Club chorus party. "I Saw the Sea"; songs, Savage F. Baker (Auckland).

“Tnvictus" and “The Sergeant-Major on Parade”; play, "Object All Sublime," Savagep Doreen, A. M. Terry. R. 11. Coleman, and Seddon Hill;*piano duo with orchestra, “Tancrcdi," Savages W. Kohn and' S. Lewis: auartet, “Sylvia,” and "The Way You Look To-night.” Savages Kohn, V. S. Cauiton, R. and A. Allan; ’cello solo, "Le Raiser," Savage 11. O. McFarlane; sketch, “The Lost Voice,” Savages Kohn and R. Allan. The accompanist was Savage Kohn.
