ANOTHER WEEK

PARLIAMENT’S SESSION

CONTENTIOUS MEASURES IMPORTANT POINTS SECURITY ACT CHARGE (Parliament,Try Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The present legislative programme having proved more contentious than had been expected, there Is now no possibility of the session concluding this week. The acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, said this afternoon that the ordinary week-end adjournment would be taken at 5.30 p.m. to-mor-row and the House would meet again at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. He could not state a definite date for the conclusion of the session, but he expected it to run another full week. Measures which are expected to provoke discussion are the Reserve Bank Amendment Sill, wtmch embodies a major phase of the Government’s war finance policy, the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, Fair Rents’ Amendment Bill, and Primary Products Marketing Amendment Bill. These bills will probably comprise the major programme in the coming week. It is possible that amendments to the Social Security Act will be brought down to-day. The measure does not contain any changes in policy and is mostly confined to machinery clauses designed to correct anomalies. Its most important feature is a clause putting into operation the arrangement made between the Government and the British Medical Association in respect to maternity contracts. The social security contribution of Is in the £1 is not dealt with in measure, this finally disposing of the persistent rumour that the charge is to be increased. Another new measure will be the Visiting Forces Bill which is patterned on the British Act in respect to visiting British forces. Urgency will be taken to-night for the passing of the Customs Acts Amendment Bill, Statutes Amendment Bill, Rural Housing Bill and the Pharmacy Bill.
