AGREEMENT EXTENDED UNFAVOURABLE .BALANCE (l’cr Pruts Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The trade agreement between New Zealand arid Canada,' ’.Vhiqh was due to expire on September .30, has been extended for a further 12 months. Notice to this effect was giyefi in 'the Gazette published last night. The agreement was entered into in 1932, and the original term of one year has been extended from time to time.
In commenting on the arrangement to extend theuagreement for a further year, the Minister of Customs, the Hon.' W. Nash, stated that the matter had been the subject of discussions during his recent visit to Ottawa.
The position of trade generally between the two countries would, he said, be/reviewed when the time was opportune, but it would be recognised that under the existing conditions it was not possible to take any action along such lines and, in'the circumstances, it had been agreed that a further extension should be made.
Trade between this Dominion and Canada was considerably in the latter’s favour, said the Minister; who quoted a table showing that the trade balance in the latter’s favoUr had increased from £1,797,000 in New Zealand currency in 1935 to £2,542,000 for the first seven months of the present financial year. .
