PARTIES’ DESIRE

EARLY END OF SESSION HEAVY LIST OF BILLS CONTENTIOUS MEASURES IMPORTANT ISSUES (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Both sides of the House of Representatives appear to be anxious to close the session by the c.ad of this week, even if a sitting on Saturday is required to complete the Government’s leg i sla ti ve p rog r a nun e.

Whether this can be achieved is still uncertain because the list of bills is fairly heavy. Some of them contain a number of contentious points. Among these is the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, which aims at correcting anomalies in the present law and which is expected to make its appearance to-night. It is also likely that the premised amendments to the Social. Security Act will be introduced to-night.

Other bills yet to comedown include the Reserve Bank Amendment Bill, an amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act which will provide for the setting up of a separate court to deal with compensation cases.

There will also be a second Finance Bill, which will be a washing-up measure, and the Primary Products Marketing Amendment Bill.

The Fair Rents Vmendment Bill, which covers flats and shops, and which has been sent to the Statutes Revision Committee, is likely to arouse some controversy in. the House. In addition, the Customs Act Amendment Bill, War Expenses Bill, Statutes Amendment Bill, Rural Housing Bill and Pharmacy Bill have to be put through their remaining stages.
