SUPPORT AT NUHAKA RAKAIPAKA TRIBESMEN (Special to tlm ITorald.) NUHAKA, this day. A further meeting of the Nuhaka and district Maori residents was held in the L.D.S. Hall to form a committee and to discuss the enlistment of Maoris for home defence and service overseas.
Mr. Syd Christy was elected to the chair, and a committee was formed consisting of Messrs. Syd Christy, chairman, T. Torowhiti, secretary, J. Smith, S. Whaanga, W. Ropitini, W. Nepia, J. Waerea, S. Haronga, T. Mahanga, S. Mataira, and Hui Tau Te Hau, all returned soldiers, Newa Waerea, Re Mataira, Te Kauru llohepa, W. Christy, and P. Waerea. The chairman explained that it was he duty of the committee, and the Maoris of the district, to intevest themselves in the well-being of the Rakaipaka tribe, members of which were coming forward to enlist in the New Zealand forces. These boys would uphold the tradition of the Maori, people. The committee, he added, also must take care that boys, in their enthusiasm to join the colours, did not enlist under age, as was done in the Great War.
Mr. Christy was accorded a vote of thanks.
