SHEEP PRICES RISE PIG RATES STEADY WESTFIELD AUCTION (Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day.. The beef pens at the Westfield stock sale yesterday were well filled, the quality being good. Late rates were maintained. Extra choice ox beef made 42s per 1001 b., choice and prime 37s to 41s; prime cow and heifer beef, 33s to 40s; boner and rough, 25s to 345. . • Extra heavy prime. steers made from £l7 to £lB 10s, heavy £ls to'£l6' 15s, medium £l4 to £l4 17s 6d, light £l.l, to £l3 15s, and unfinished' £6 to £ll 15s; extra heavy prime, cows and heifers £l2 to £ls 2s 6d, heavy £lO -to £ll 15s, medium £B. to;£10 7s 6d, and light £5 to £8 15s. *■ Good quality vealers and runners met with a good demand, values being firm at late rates. Runners'made from £4 to £8 7s 6d; heavy vealers £6 10s to £8 6s, medium £5 10s to £7 .3s,. light £4 to £5 12s, small £3 3s to £4 7s, smaller 18s to £3 Bs, bobby and rough Is to £2 ss.
An average sheep market' . had a ready sale, ewes showing a slight improvement on values. Extra heavy prime wethers, woolly, made from 37s to 395; shorn 27s 6d to 29s sd; heavy 34s to 36s 9d, shorn 24s 6cl to 20s: medium woolly 30s to 34s 6d, shorn 20s to 235; light woolly 25s to 30s; unfinished wethers 18s to 23s'6d; extra heavy prime ewes, woolly 26s to 30s, shorn 20s to 22s 3d; heavy woolly 24s Gd to 27s 9d, shorn 17s to 19s 9d; medium woolly 20s to 25s 6d, light 16. s to 21s, unfinished, 14s to 18s Gd. An average lamb entry held recent levels, prime lamb making from 18s to 30s,.others 10s to 17s 9d, and spring lamb to 30s 3d.
A smaller pig entry sold at firm late rates. Choppers made from £2 16s to £4, heavy baconers £3 18s 'to £4 9s; medium £3 12s to £3 16s, light £3 Is to, £3 9s; stores £1 12s to £2, slips £1 2s to £1 Bs, weaners 10s to £1 ss ; heavy porkers £2 14s to £2 18s, medium £2 7s to £2 12s, light £2 to £2 6s, small and unfinished £1 14s to £1 19s. Baconers averaged 6*d per lb., and porkers 6Jd to 7d per lb.
