OBITUARY

AIR. GEORGE SYAiONS The death occurred in the Cook Hospital on Monday of Mr. George Symons, father of Mrs. D. W. Thomas, 515 Stout street. Mr. Symons, who was 78 years of age, had enjoyed good health until recently and had been a patient in hospital for only a short time.

Born in Wadebridge, Cornwall, and married in the Homeland at the age of 22, Mr. Symons lived for many years at Petone and afterwards .spent 12 years in Feilding. Upon his retirement he resided for 12 months with his daughter, Mrs. H. J. Roberts, Riverton. Recently he had been staying with Mrs. Thomas in Gisborne.

Besides his widow, the deceased leaves four daughters, Mrs. H. J. Roberts, Riverton, Mrs. V. Lloyd- . Tones, Petone, Mrs. D. W. Thomas, Gisborne, and Mrs. IT. Churcher, Nelson, and two sons, Mr. G. Symons, Sydney, and Mr. J. Symons, Feilding.

Mr. Symons was a member of the Presbyterian Church and had always taken a keen interest in church work. A service will be held at Mrs. Thomas’ residence, 515 Stout street, at 1.45 p.m. to-day, prior to the departure of the funeral for the Taruheru cemetery.

One of Wellington's pioneers, Mr. John Thomas Mann, died recently in Wellington in his eighty-fifth year. He arrived at Wellington by the sailing ship Woodlark in March, 1874. Mr. Mann was born at Royal Lemington Spa, Warwickshire, England.

Cable advice has been received in Wellington of the death in England of Mr. W. Gladstone Wickham, formerly British Trade Commissioner in New 1 Zealand. He was well known in musical and dramatic circles in Wellington and was a prominen'vgolf and tennis player. He married Miss C. Simpson, Wellington, and is. survived by his widow and two sons.
