“WET” CANTEENS OPPOSED
MILITARY CAMPS PRESBYTERIAN CHAPLAINS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Presbyterian Chaplains Committee, at a meeting in Wellington yesterday, passed the following resolution: “That this meeting of the Presbyterian Chaplains Advisory Board, with representatives from advisory committees of four centres, all men with war experience, regrets to hear the suggestion of the introduction of ‘wet’ canteens into New Zealand military camps, as it is our conviction that the experience of the last war showed the grave dangers attending ‘wet’ canteens in camps and on transports, and also because it would profoundly disturb a large body of opinion in the community as a whole. It is further resolved that copies of this resolution be sent to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones.”
