SPRING CATTLE FAIR 1938 PRICES BETTERED MATAWHERO OFFERINGS A very spirited sale was recorded at the Matawhero yards to-day when the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association held its Spring Cattle Fair. There was a considerable improvement on last year’s comparative figures, competition from Hawke’s Bay for alt lines helping to brighten up an already healthy demand. Beef . The best prices for beef were the highest-for some considerable- time, cows going to £lO 14s. Prices:— Cows. —Nine, Hereford, a great pen, £lO 14s; 9, ditto, £lO 3s; 5, good, Hereford, £9 13s; 5, ditto, £9 9s; 0, Hereford, £8 6s. Bullocks. — Ninety-six. P.A.-Here-ford cross, four-year, on account of Messrs. Hutchinson Bros., a bigframed, heavy conditioned line, £9 12s.
Two-year Steers. —Sixty, Hereford, on account of Strathallan station, good store condition, £5 12s; 77, P.A., •a great line, well conditioned,, on account of Mr. R. G. Sherwood Hale, £6 13s; 29, Hereford-P.A., poor condition, £3 15s; 38, P.A., good store condition, £6 Is; 17, P.A., a 'good fresh lot, £5 10s; 18. good, fresh, P.A., (p) £5 Gs; 21, good, store, Hereford, £5 Is; 11 black, good store condition, £5 10s.
