V.A.D. TRAINING
HOSPITAL FACILITIES HEADY FOR DETACHMENTS COOK BOARD APPROVES Arising out of a conference held by the board with representatives of the St. John Ambulance Association and the Red Cross Society, it was reported to yesterday afternoon's meeting of ibe Cook Hospital Board that the board’s representatives had agreed to provide facilities at the hospital for the training of members of the Voluntary Aid Division, subject to the classes being under the control of the board and the administrative authority of the hospital. The following agreement had been reached over the training of classes: That each detachment should consist of not more than 20 persons. That members must be between the ages of US and 40 years, and preferably hold a certificate in home nursing, hygiene and first aid from either the St. John Association or Red Cross Society and be recommended by either of these societies. It was agreed that the period of training of the first group should cover four months. That in giving theoretical training, the whole of the group should attend on the nights determined upon. That for practical work this should be arranged in groups during week-ends. ' The tutoring staff of the hospital, having discussed the procedure, are ready and willing to devote their time outside of their usual duties towards the training of these groups. A' Uniform For Ward Duties It was agreed that the hospital should provide and supply uniforms to member for use when they are required to do their duties in the It was recommended that the de/ partment should bring about the adoption of a suitable badge of recognition, this to be worn on the uniforms. It was • agreed that the matron and managing secretary arrange for the necessary uniforms. It was agreed that a register should be kept by tfie Red Cross Society and the St. John Association of all trainees, while the hospital would also keep sufficient record of those persons who would pass through their hands. Early Start With Training It was agreed that the representatives of the separate organisations should convey to their respective bodies the outcome of the discussion with a view to it being given effect to as early as possible. The chairman added that the board would not now be expected to provide uniforms, as the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance had undertaken this.
