United States public health officials believe that the common rat is the "reservoir from which infantile paralysis spreads to humans. Dr. Thomas Parran. surgeon-general in announcing that a rat was susceptible to poliomelytis, declared that the finding was the most important. Further research would be necessary to confirm it.
