CANARIES AND CAGE BIRDS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP DOUBLED At the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Canary and Cage Bird Association there was a large attendance, Mr. W. Parker presiding. The report and balance sheet showed a sound financial position "and an increase to 65 financial members. Several new members were nominated. The chairman stated that the club had increased its assets from £6O to nearly £2OO, and the membership had been more than doubled. He complimented members on their success in winning trophies at outside shows, including those at Napier, Palmerston North and North Shore, and also in the grand national event of New Zealand held in New Plymouth against the best of the birds in New Zealand. Officers elected were:—Patron. Mr. A. Stoneham; president, Mr. W. Parker; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. Chambers, C. Platten, A. M. Turnbull, F. Gardner, J. J. Johnstone, R. Kelly and Drs. A. L. Singer and W. Bowie; committee, Mesdames F. Walker and H. Lindley, Messrs. R. Black, R. Maxwell, H. Lindley, A. Kay, A. Chapman and H. O. Connor; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Lindley; assistant secretary, Mr. H. Finlay.

Several local fanciers were nominated for the judges’ list compiled by the New Zealand Federation of Cage Bird Clubs, the names approved for nomination being Messrs. L. Kendrew, A. M. Turnbull, J. Johnstone, H. Payne (Wairoa), R. Lester (Hastings), E. Lindley and H. Finlay. Addresses were given by Messrs. Parker and Lindley on the preparation of birds for breeding, and lectures were arranged for future meetings, which would be open to all members and intending members.
