SPORTS IN TE KARAKA

WAIKOHU SCHOOLS KORANGA WINS TWO CUPS R.S.A. CUP TO TE KARAKA (Herald Correspondent.) Under ideal weather conditions, the Waikohu Primary Schools’ Sports Association held its annual sports gathering in the Te Karaka Recreation Ground on Friday. A large attendance of children and their parents represented the schools of the district, and a varied programme of events was successfully carried through. The standard of play in the Rugby and basketball games was particularly high, and some promising talent was (displayed in the track events.

The thanks of the association was expressed to all those who assisted to make the gathering a success, particularly those who helped as gatekeepers, ground and track stewards, judges and helpers in the refreshment stall. The association also thanked the Te Karaka Recreation Ground Committee and Mr. Dutton, who assisted in the preparation of the ground. At the conclusion of thd events Mr. J. C. Nicholls, president of the association, presented the championship cups to the winning schools, as follows: Waikohu Returned Soldiers’ .Memorial Cup: Te Karaka School. Herbert Smith Trust Cup, championship points: Koranga. Herbert Smith Trust Cup, football and basketball: Koranga. For the purpose of competition, the Tc Karaka District High School was divided into two houses, Takipu and Rangatira.
