DIFFERENCE IN PAY

MEN ON MILITARY SERVICE HARBOUR BOARD’S ACTION A decision to make up any difference in pay lost as a result of men volunteering for military service was reached by the Gisborne Harbour Board to-day. when it was reported that one member of the staff already had joined the forces. The chairman, Mr. A. J. Nicol, quoted the action of the Auckland Harbour Board, and said he did not think that the Gisborne board could do any less. Mr. J. J. Macdonald moved that ihe board make up the difference in the pay.

Mr. C. H. Williams stressed the point that the board should not allow any of its employees to lose by their action, but urged that the board should take into consideration the value of the board and lodgings allowable.

It was pointed out that the member of the staff in quesion was due for an increase in salary in January, and it was urged that this should be provided for in making up any difference in pay The motion to make up the difference in the pay was carried.
