“The Cingalce” Season Ends
Arnid scenes of enthusiasm, “The Cingalee” season of the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society concluded on Saturday night, whew another large audience displayed keen appreciation of the excellent rendering of the bright musical comedy. As on previous nights, the performance went with a swing avid the show as a whole was presented in a manner which left no room to doubt the ability of the company or the hard work which had been entailed in making the production such an outstanding success. At the conclusion of the performance (here were insistent calls for the producer, end the reception given to Mrs. Meßeath when she was escorted to the stage was testimony to her popularity among the performers and of the appreciation of the -audience. In returning thanks for the tribute paid to her, Mrs. Meßeath made eulogistic references to the assistance she had received from the whole company and made special mention of the work of Mr. Wilfrid Kohn, the musical director, Mr. S. T. Lewis, the pianist, Mr. A. J. Nicol, the stage manager, and Mrs. P. Hockley. At the conclusion of her remarks she was accorded musical honours by the company. The final curtain came down on a stage that had been transformed by the distribution among performers of innumerable floral and other tributes to their efforts.
